Baltimore County police said Friday that a man was in custody in relation to Wednesday's BB gun shooting incident near Hereford High School.
Police said Ernesto Alexander Piche, 24, was apprehended on an arrest warrant around 5:45 p.m. in the area of Greenside Drive and Cranbrook Road in Cockeysville, police said. The arrest came after a search that lasted almost two days.
Police had been called to Hereford High School, in the 17300 block of York Road, at 8 p.m. Wednesday night for a report of a shooting.
Officers said two men had become involved in an argument on a parking lot next to athletic fields. During the argument, one of the men hit the other in the face with a BB gun and then shot him at point blank range with it, police said.
The assailant then fled the scene in a car, which he crashed into a tree on Belfast Road. He then fled on foot. Police conducted a search but could not locate him.
The victim was taken to an area hospital where he was treated and released.
Piche was apprehended by members of the Baltimore County Police Department Warrant Task Force and Career Criminal Units on a warrant for second-degree assault and other charges. The incident remains under investigation, police said.
