Update: Man shot with BB gun near Hereford High School

A man was injured when he was shot with a BB gun near Hereford High School at about 8 p.m. Wednesday night, Baltimore County police said.

The victim, estimated to be in his 50s, had an upper-body wound and is expected to survive, police spokesman Cpl. John Wachter said. Police said initially that they were not sure whether the weapon was a BB gun or a low-caliber handgun.

Authorities are searching the area of the 17300 block of York Rd. for a suspect, who might have also caused a nearby car crash, in which a vehicle left the road, police said.

No athletic events were taking place at the high school, and traffic in the area was low Wednesday night, police said.
