Girl dragged by dog in Owings Mills, seriously injured

A 10-year-old girl was seriously injured Sunday after being dragged by a dog she was walking in Owings Mills, according to Baltimore County officials.

County fire and emergency medical personnel were dispatched to the unit block of Cotswold Court about 4:38 p.m., said county public safety spokeswoman Elise Armacost.

A boy who was playing with the girl told first responders that the girl was walking the dog on a leash when the dog "lunged and took off," then pulled her into a curb, Armacost said. The girl was conscious but had serious injuries and was flown to a Johns Hopkins hospital.

The dog was not at the scene when crews arrived and Armacost said she did not know what type of dog it was.

"This is not a dog attack, so there was no police involvement; there was no animal-control involvement," Armacost said.
