Overloaded power strip caused fatal Randallstown house fire

Investigators have determined that a fire that killed an 87-year-old man in Randallstown Monday was caused by an overloaded power strip.

The man, Wilfred Owen Quimby, died from smoke inhalation after being pulled from a burning home at about 8:30 a.m. in the 9100 block of Bengal Road, while his daughter also was pulled from the home was in critical condition, officials said.

Heavy fire was showing from the home, according to Baltimore County fire officials.

His daughter, Ellen Ameta McColl, 57, was in critical condition at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center on Monday afternoon, according to officials. A dog was also rescued from the home.
