Two-alarm fire burns through Middle River towing company

A two-alarm fire burned through a Middle River towing company Wednesday morning and has closed a portion of Eastern Boulevard near Martin State Airport, according to Baltimore County fire officials.

Firefighters were called to Phil Blythe's Towing in the 2800 block of Eastern Boulevard for reports of a fire about 8:15 a.m., and called for a second alarm to help fight the blaze.

Firefighters from Baltimore County, Baltimore and the airport fought the fire from outside the building, which also has second-story apartments, said Lt. Jay Ringgold, a county fire spokesman.

There are no reports of injuries, Ringgold said.

"Hot spots" in the building burned for hours but were contained to the building, he said.

The fire was officially brought under control about 11:15 a.m., Ringgold said. An investigation is ongoing.

Ringgold said he did not know the length of Eastern Boulevard that was closed.
