Police said Armstead was driving a Jeep Patriot east on Pulaski Highway when it hit the rear of a street sweeper stopped at a red light at the entrance to a Best Buy store near Rossville Boulevard. After the crash, the Jeep went over the curb, hitting a traffic signal support pole near the intersection.

The 53-year-old driver of the street sweeper was not injured.
