Essex liquor store and bar owner stabbed in confrontation

The 45-year-old owner of a combined liquor store and sports bar in Essex was stabbed outside of the business on Wednesday night, and another man has been arrested in the incident, according to Baltimore County Police.

Police responded to 444 Liquors and Sports Bar in the 400 block of Eastern Boulevard about 9:22 p.m. and located the owner, Balwinder Singh Sandhu, of Baltimore, with a stab wound to the abdomen, police said.

He was transferred to a local hospital with what were believed to be non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

A preliminary investigation showed Sandhu had been involved in a confrontation inside the business with Christopher Scott Hall, 26, of Essex, and that Hall had been escorted outside, police said. Outside, Hall allegedly stabbed Sandhu before fleeing the scene, police said.

Police said they located Hall a short distance from the business shortly after responding to the bar and arrested him.

Hall has been charged with first- and second-degree assault and with possession of a dangerous weapon. As of Thursday morning, Hall was being held on $250,000 bail at the Baltimore County Detention Center, police said.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
