Baltimore County corrections officer charged with smuggling drugs into jail

A Baltimore County Detention Center corrections officer is charged with smuggling Suboxone into the county jail.

Police said on Monday that Melvin Jerome Hodges, 31, brought Suboxone into the facility for distribution by an inmate. He was identified after the investigation began in February.

Hodges, of Chestnut Hill Avenue in Baltimore, was arrested on Thursday at the detention center. He is charged with one count of conspiracy to distribute drugs and was released on $35,000 bail.

County police are continuing to investigate.

Hodges did not have an attorney listed in online court records.
