A former church youth group leader in Baltimore County was sentenced Monday to a year in jail on a child pornography charge.
Robert David Wright, 36, also will be placed on supervised probation for five years, and must register as a sex offender under the sentence issued by Circuit Court Judge Susan Souder.
Wright lived in Cockeysville and formerly led a youth group at Clynmalira United Methodist Church in Phoenix. When he was arrested in January, police said his home computer contained thousands of pornographic images of female babies, toddlers and young girls, including images of children being raped.
Police said at the time that they had no evidence any of the children depicted in the images were church members, or that Wright sexually abused children himself.
He pleaded guilty in September to a charge related to distribution of child pornography. According to court testimony presented Monday, Wright is undergoing therapy to treat his urges to view child pornography.
When Wright was arrested, the church's pastor said in a statement that because of church policies, he was confident that Wright had never been alone with any children from the church.
