Baltimore County public works officials have closed a road in Owings Mills after finding structural problems on an aging bridge.
Gwynnbrook Avenue is closed for about a mile-long stretch between Owings Mills Boulevard and Garrison Forest Road. Traffic is being detoured through Crondall Lane.
The bridge carries traffic over a tributary to the Gwynns Falls, and engineers closed it on an emergency basis after finding structural concerns during an inspection.
The 23-foot-long bridge has been "declining in recent years," according to public works officials and was already in line for repairs. The bridge has been checked every three months.
The bridge was built in 1920 and widened in the 1950s, according to the county. It carries 7,000 vehicles per day.
The county is finalizing plans for repairing the bridge and waiting for the state to approve a right-of-way agreement for the work. The schedule for work hasn't been set yet.
