Son charged with setting fire that led to 90-year-old mother's death

Baltimore County police have charged a man with starting a 2011 house fire that claimed the life of his mother.

Police allege that Robert McCann, 58, intentionally set a fire at his home 2200 block of Alletta Avenue in Lansdowne on August 25, 2011.

When firefighters searched the home, they found his mother, Edna Marie McCann in a bedroom. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said Robert McCann had told firefighters that his mother was still inside the home. He had minor burns and soot on his hands, clothing, and face, police said.

Investigators later alleged that McCann had intentionally started the fire.
