Caregiver charged with abusing special needs person

A 48-year-old caregiver from Baltimore has been accused of assaulting a special needs person in her care, Maryland Attorney General Douglas F. Gansler announced today.

A Baltimore County grand jury indicted Angel Luyanda last week on charges of abusing a vulnerable adult and second-degree assault, Gansler said in a news release.

The charges stem from an alleged assault at Honeygo Park in White Marsh on Aug. 20, 2010. The victim was a 26-year-old client of Chimes Inc., an organization that assists citizens with developmental disabilities and other special needs, according to the attorney general's office.

Luyanda was serving as a Chimes employee at the time of the incident, the office said. She was not immediately available for comment.

An arraignment is scheduled for Oct. 18 in Baltimore County Circuit Court.
