No. 9 Gilman will need its "A" game when the Greyhounds play rival and No. 8 Archbishop Curley in boys soccer on Wednesday at 4:15 p.m. in Roland Park.
The last time the teams met the Greyhounds topped the Friars, 2-1, in a Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference playoffs semifinal last November.
The Friars (6-3 overall, 3-2 league) have been waiting nearly a year for the rematch.
“It was a numbing experience to lose that game,” said Curley coach Barry Stitz, whose team is led by senior forward Eric Spalt, sophomore forward Tre Pulliam and senior midfielder Kyle Mizell. “Both teams are senior heavy and most of them played in that game. This is a chance to get them back. It should be a fun and exciting atmosphere.”
Gilman, which features University of Pennsylvania-bound defender Sam Wancowicz and senior goalie Chase Wittich, is hoping to rebound from 3-0 loss to No. 1 McDonogh on Monday. The Greyhounds are 4-3 overall and 2-3 in conference play.
