Northern Police District Capt. Richard Gibson said he tries to send out updates to community members on his group email list daily. This email was sent by the captain on Friday, May 1.
I would like to start off by saying how awesome today was. Both unity walkswere a great success. There were so many people there that I have beencommunicating with via phone, email and text messages there today.
It wasnice to put a face to the names now. It was like a reunion of sorts.
Butback to the walks, so many members of the community were thrilled to have usinvolved like that. As I have said many times before, this is my homedistrict and I genuinely care about the community.
In case you don't know,I was a rookie officer here from '97 through '99 and came back as a lieutenantin '08 very briefly. Between '08 to now, I primarily worked in homicide as ashift commander.
I would like to thank my good friend, Bill Miller, for helping me coordinatethe walks on such short notice. Unfortunately I was redeployed to Pennsyand North Avenue halfway through the walk up York Road.
Being a former sailorand leader, I realize that duty calls and [I] had to depart to get in the frontlines.I will be sending updates as they come available.
I called officers in earlytonight to make sure we can protect lives and property to the best of ourability.
Please stay strong as a community and continue to pray for peaceand reconciliation.
Please don't hesitate to email me with concerns that youmay have.
Your captain,
Richard Gibson
