Man shot, loses control of vehicle, hits pedestrian

An adult male was killed Saturday after he was shot, lost control of his vehicle and crashed it into a pole in Northwest Baltimore, injuring a pedestrian in the process, according to police.

Police responded around 11 a.m. to the scene of a serious accident at Liberty Heights and Eldorado avenues, where they found medics attempting to extract an adult male from a late-model, black Infiniti, said police spokesman Det. Donny Moses.

When firefighters and medics extracted the victim, they found that he had suffered from multiple gunshots to his upper body and legs before his vehicle crashed into the pole. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police have not yet identified the victim.

The vehicle also hit a pedestrian who was standing at a nearby bus stop, Moses said. The man was taken to Sinai Hospital with non life-threatening injuries, and was listed in good condition.

Moses said that according to witnesses, another car pulled up beside the victim several blocks prior to the accident scene at Liberty Heights Avenue and Hillsdale Road.

The driver of the unidentified vehicle got out, witnesses said, walked around the car and opened fired on the Infiniti. The suspect then got back into his vehicle and fled the scene, witnesses told police.

While being shot, the victim pressed on the gas pedal, speeding south on Liberty Heights, before his car struck the pedestrian and two stationary poles. He crashed through one pole before his car rested on the second.

Moses said that city homicide detectives are questioning witnesses to obtain a description of the suspect and his vehicle. He said the case is open and ongoing. Anyone with information can call 410-396-2100.
