One man was killed in a downtown Baltimore shooting early Wednesday, and three others were injured in an earlier drive-by shooting in the Westport neighborhood, police said.
The killing broke a streak of nearly 12 days without a homicide in Baltimore, one of the longest such stretches in years, according to records.
The downtown shooting occurred about 2:30 a.m. in the 100 block of N. Eutaw St. near Lexington Market. Officers responding to the scene found a 1978 Buick on the sidewalk near a Metro stop in the 400 block of W. Lexington St., with a man in the driver's seat suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, said Detective Donny Moses, a police spokesman.
Investigators believe the man was shot on Eutaw Street — where shell casings were recovered — then drove north until the car came to a rest against a fence. The man's identity had not been confirmed as of Wednesday afternoon, Moses said.
In the earlier incident, reported about 10:40 p.m. Tuesday, police were called to the 2300 block of Sidney Ave. in Baltimore's Westport neighborhood for a report of shootings.
The victims — three men ages 19, 20 and 21 — were walking in that block when a vehicle approached and its occupants opened fire, police said.
Two of the victims walked into Harbor Hospital for treatment, and all three suffered injuries that were not deemed life-threatening, police said. They had no suspects and had yet to determine a motive in the shootings.
