Man killed in East Baltimore crash overnight

A 33-year-old man was killed in an East Baltimore car crash early Saturday, police said.

Officers were called to an accident at Edison Highway and Federal Street at 1:54 a.m., according to a statement. They determined in a preliminary investigation that a 1995 Lexus traveling north on Edison Highway had struck a 2001 Buick that was driving on Federal Street.

The driver of the Buick was taken to Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he died at 2:42 a.m. The driver of the Lexus was also taken to Hopkins and is expected to survive, police said. Neither driver has been identified.

Police also reported a nonfatal shooting at 12:27 a.m. Saturday in Southwest Baltimore. Police found a man who they said is "in his 40s," shot in the buttock, in the 900 block of Ellicott Driveway. The unidentified man was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive.
