About 25 people are unable to return to their apartments after a fire Wednesday in Northeast Baltimore.
The fire broke out around 3 p.m. at the Maple Glen Apartments in the 6000 block of Amberwood Road, said Chief Kevin Cartwright, spokesman with the fire department. The building was occupied by an unknown number of residents, he said. It was reported that people escaped by jumping out of windows, he said.
Linnea Anderson, spokeswoman for the Red Cross of Maryland, said eight or nine apartments were affected by the fire in the Frankford neighborhood of Baltimore. The agency is giving the residents food, clothing and other assistance, Anderson said.
Cartwright said four people were taken to area hospitals for injuries not considered life-threatening.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
