Police arrested a man in the Saturday stabbing death of his 19-year-old nephew, an incident they believe resulted from a family altercation, officials said.
Dewayne Hopkins, 44, was arrested and taken into custody Sunday evening and charged with first-degree murder in the killing of David Lawrence Hopkins in the 400 block of S. East Ave.
Dewayne Hopkins, whose last known address, according to court records, was the Office of Homeless Services on North Guilford Avenue, has a criminal record extending to 1994, including convictions for drug possession. He was due to appear in court in late November on charges of disorderly conduct and possessing an open container of alcohol.
A hearing on the murder charges is scheduled for Dec. 7.
