Five men died and three were injured in seven separate shootings over the weekend, a Baltimore police spokesman said.
At 8:15 p.m. Saturday, a 22-year-old man was shot in the head in the 4700 block of Shamrock Ave. in the Parkside neighborhood of Northeast Baltimore, said the spokesman, Detective Jeremy Silbert. Daryll Hood, of the 4600 block of Shamrock, was taken to Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he died at 8:52 p.m. No further details about the shooting were available, the spokesman said.
Silbert said detectives are investigating the possibility that the Shamrock Avenue homicide is connected to another shooting victim found in the alley behind the 3500 block of N. Calvert Street in the Oakenshawe neighborhood by police officers at 8:53 p.m. Saturday.
The man, who had gunshot wounds in his chest and side, was taken to Union Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 9:45 p.m., Silbert said. No age or further information about the victim were available.
Just before midnight, Southwestern District officers went to the 3000 block of Presbury St. for a report of a shooting inside a house, Silbert said. They found a 46-year-old victim inside the home with multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to Shock Trauma, where he died at 1:23 a.m. Sunday. Witnesses said just before the shooting, the victim had been arguing with someone, but no suspect information was available, Silbert said.
And early Sunday morning, Western District officers on routine patrol, heard gunshots coming from the direction of Warwick Avenue in the Coppin Heights neighborhood, Silbert said. They found two victims in the 1600 block: a 28-year-old man who had been shot in the arm; and a 33-year-old man who had been shot multiple times. The 33-year-old was taken to a hospital, where he died at 2:07 a.m.
A 51-year-old man died at the Maryland Shock Trauma Center after a shooting early Saturday, Silbert said. The victim had been shot in the stomach and knee in the 3100 block of Grantley Ave. in Northwest Baltimore at 12:01 a.m. His identity has not been released.
Police are also investigating a nonfatal shooting that occurred Saturday morning. A 42-year-old man walked into the Central District police station after he had been shot in the arm. The victim told police that he had been shot during an attempted robbery at Old Town Mall. He was taken to an area hospital for treatment.
The seventh shooting happened about 9:30 p.m. Sunday, when an adult male was shot in the ankle in the 3300 block of Ingleside Avenue. He was transported to the hospital.
"Homicide detectives have been working through the night on all of these cases," Silbert said, interviewing witnesses and canvassing neighborhoods.
The police department will increase patrols and redeploy resources as necessary in some areas as a result of these incidents, as well as work with the community to find suspects, he said.
"Community intelligence is certainly crucial," Silbert said.
