Firefighters rescued a man from inside a vacant row house in West Baltimore that caught fire early Saturday morning, officials said.
The one-alarm fire ignited about 6:30 a.m. in the basement of the home in the 200 block of S. Gilmor Street and extended into the first and second floor, said Capt. Roman Clark, a spokesman with the fire department.
Firefighters heard the man's calls for help and rescued him. He was taken to the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, but Clark did not know the extent of his injuries Saturday night. He said officials believed the man to be 42 years old and that he was homeless.
Between 30 and 35 firefighters responded to the scene. Officials have not determined a cause, and the fire remains under investigation, Clark said.
