An MTA light rail train that had nearly reached the Camden Yards station partially derailed Monday night, causing a "ripple effect" of inconvenience about an hour before fans filed out of Oriole Park after a game between the O's and the Chicago White Sox.

No one was injured in the incident, Maryland Transit Administration spokesman Terry Owens said. The train was empty at the time.

The derailment occurred about 9:45 p.m., when the two rear wheels of the two-car configuration left the track. Operators were able to bring back-up trains "right up to the point where the accident occurred," Owens said.

Disruption to fans leaving the ballpark was minor, as MTA officials at the scene directed passengers onto alternate trains. The derailment did not affect car and truck traffic in the area.

Workers who brought in a jack were expected to have the train returned to the track by about 1:00 a.m. Tuesday morning commuter traffic would not be affected, Owens said.

The cause of the derailment is under investigation.
