The man injured in a shooting at the downtown Hilton hotel last week is in jail on unrelated federal gun charges, while the woman charged with shooting him has posted bail and is the subject of a protective order.
Harold Lee O'Neal, 26, was being sought by federal authorities after being indicted in February on weapons charges, records show. A federal grand jury handed down an indictment charging O'Neal with illegally possessing a loaded Hi Point .9 mm semiautomatic handgun with an obliterated serial number, and possessing heroin with intent to distribute, according to court records.
O'Neal, who was also being sought on a warrant in state court on drug charges, has been ordered held pending a hearing.
Another man, Marcus Garland Clark, was also charged in the indictment with possession of a loaded .25 caliber semi automatic weapon, records show.
O'Neal's girlfriend, Sharolyn Yarbrough, meanwhile, has been charged with attempted first-degree murder in the Aug. 3 shooting at the city-owned Hilton that left O'Neal with a gunshot wound to the lower back. Records show that Yarbrough, 34, told detectives that she and O'Neal were fighting and struggling for the gun, but she refused to elaborate and was charged.
Bail for Yarbrough was set at $250,000, which she posted Aug. 6 and was released. The next day, a woman named Shawntra O'Neal sought a peace order against her, which was dropped, and she filed for another two days later. A hearing in that case is set for Aug. 16.
It was not clear whether Harold O'Neal and Shawntra O'Neal were related.
