Man arrested after police officer struck by car at impound lot

Police have arrested a man after a city officer was struck by a car at an impound lot Tuesday, a spokesman said.

Lynwood Williams, 39, was arrested and charged with two counts of assault, after police said he injured Lt. Sam Hood, a 15-year veteran, who had been working at a second job at the lot, said Det. Kevin Brown.

Police said Williams refused to pay to pick up his vehicle and drove through the gate, striking Hood as he tried to prevent the car from driving away.

The officer suffered some "bumps and bruises" from being rolled over the hood of the car in the afternoon incident, Brown said.
