A 6-year-old girl who was struck by a police car in West Baltimore Tuesday remains in the hospital, a spokesman said.

Emynie Hill, 6, was crossing W. Saratoga St. in the 1400 block of about 2 p.m., when she was struck by a marked police car, said her mother, Myisha Bird.

City police spokesman Detective Kevin Brown said the officer was responding to a call at the time of the accident.

"She flew in the air," Bird said, saying that the child's grandmother witnessed the accident. Bird said a major has made an apology from the family, but she would like to speak to the officer who was driving.

"I would like to hear an apology from him directly," she said.

Bird said her daughter suffers from internal bleeding and she will remain at Johns Hopkins Medical Center for several days. Police had initially reported on Tuesday that the girl was treated and released from the hospital.

Brown said the incident is under investigation.
