Man arrested in W. Baltimore stabbing death

Baltimore police arrested a 34-year-old man hours after the Howard County man he is accused of stabbing Tuesday morning in West Baltimore died at a local hospital, police said.

Gilbert Conway has been charged in the killing of Lonnie William Howie Jr., 42, who police said was found in the street suffering from stab wounds at about 9:40 a.m. in the 300 block of N. Schroeder St.

A motive was not disclosed, but police said there were multiple witnesses. Howie, of the 5300 block of Kerger Road in Ellicott City was taken to Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he was pronounced dead at about 1:40 p.m.

Conway, who has a history of drug convictions and whose last known address was in the 400 block of E. 27th St., was taken into custody at about 6:40 p.m., police said.
