Police seek help returning stolen property to rightful owners

Baltimore police are seeking help from the public to identify the owners of computers, printers, jewelry and a $3,000 Bose stereo system that are among items stolen from at least five houses over the past six months.

Detectives seized the items in a raid last weekend at a rowhouse in the 1800 block of N. Register St. in East Baltimore. They arrested 29-year-old Devon Anderson of that address and charged him in one burglary.

But Lt. Michael Newton said detectives believe he is responsible for at least five burglaries in the area, and they are looking at other cases "throughout the city." He described the effort as "an extremely time-consuming investigation."

Newton said evidence recovered at a recent break-in in the 1700 block of N. Bethel St. led them to the house on Register. Police displayed items Wednesday that Newton said were found around the suspect's house.

They include items that would be a typical haul in a burglary: 200 pieces of jewelry and watches; computers and printers; an X-Box; the stereo system; and an electronic keyboard. The display also contained some odd items — four picture frames and a plastic bag filled with DVDs with titles such as "Zohan," "Art Heist" and "Missing in Action."

Anyone with information about the burglaries or who would like to reclaim stolen items can call the Eastern District at 410-396-2433.
