A 22-year-old woman was injured early Saturday after a vehicle fleeing police drove onto the sidewalk after the second night of the Greek folk festival, police said.
Police were called to the 4800 block of Eastern Ave. about 2 a.m. after a woman said a man who made a lewd comment at her pulled out a handgun and pointed it at her and her boyfriend, according to an incident report. As witnesses notified security for the Greek Folk Festival, the man and three others fled in a 1999 BMW.
With the 500 block of S. Ponca St. closed to traffic because of the festival, the car veered onto the sidewalk and up a ramp in front of St. Nicholas Church.
An unidentified woman who had just left the church was struck and pinned between the bottom of the vehicle and a damaged railing, police said. She suffered cuts to her face, abrasions to her back and left side, and a possible sprained ankle. She was taken to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center and was listed in fair condition.
Police said that after hitting the woman, the vehicle managed to continue eastbound on Eastern Avenue for about a half-mile before crashing in the 500 block of Dundalk Ave., and all four suspects were detained. Police said no handgun was found in the vehicle or during a search of the area.
Jorge Alberto Ramirez, 22, of the 3200 block of E. Fairmount Ave. and Thomas Henry Taylor, 22, of the 1600 block of Gray Place, were arrested and charged, records show. The two rear passengers were released.
