Three men were arrested and two handguns were recovered after a man shot at a Southwest District police officer following a traffic stop Monday night, police said.
Maj. Anthony Brown said two men bailed out of the vehicle after officers pulled it over in the 2500 block of W. Baltimore St. before 8 p.m., and one of them fired a shot at an officer that missed.
The shooter dropped the handgun and fled, but the second man was caught a short distance away, Brown said. Two other men remained in the vehicle and were arrested after officers saw a second handgun on the floor of the car. Additional details were not available at the scene.
"It was just good police work," Brown said.
The incident unfolded in the Shipley Hill neighborhood, just a few blocks away from where three men were fatally shot Sunday, part of a bloody holiday weekend that saw eight killings. Brown said officers were in the area and responded within moments of the call going over the radio.
