Several streets in Southwest Baltimore have been closed while cleanup of a large hydraulic oil spill is underway, a city Fire Department spokesman said.
Sand from a 1-ton truck is being used to soak up the oil from the leak, reported in the 1900 block of Wilkins Avenue at about 12:20 p.m., said Chief Kevin Cartwright, spokesman for the city fire department.
The spill extends from Wilkens Avenue to Fulton Avenue on Monroe Street, and Washington Boulevard, said Officer Nicole Monroe, a city police spokesman. Police are assisting with road closures, she said.
It's unclear what caused the spill or the amount of oil that has leaked, Cartwright said.
