Baltimore man pleads guilty in murder of carryout owner

A Baltimore man pleaded guilty Friday to the first-degree murder and armed robbery of a Chinese-restaurant owner who was shot five times after delivering takeout to his killers, the Baltimore State's Attorney's Office announced.

According to police, Walter Taylor, 29, and a teen accomplice ordered food from the China Garden carryout restaurant in Oldtown Mall on Jan. 3, 2009. But when restaurant owner, Tian Zin Wang, 51, responded with the delivery, the men robbed and shot him, then Walter took the food home to his girlfriend's house.

As part of his plea deal, Walter will receive a life sentence with all but 40 years of the time suspended. Sentences for several related charges will run concurrently to the 40 years. Sentencing is scheduled for May 19.

Taylor's cousin and co-defendant, Ronald Gamble, 19, is scheduled for trial in August.
