Police probe fatal shooting of man, 20, in East Baltimore

Baltimore Sun

Baltimore police continued to investigate the fatal shooting of a 20-year-old man Monday night in East Baltimore.

An officer responded to a 9 p.m. report of a shooting in the 2600 block of Grogan Ave. in the Berea neighborhood, police said.

The victim, Michael Holt, was found lying in an alley behind the even side of the block with a gunshot wound to his torso, according to police. Holt was taken to Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 9:31 p.m., police said.

Holt was on probation when he was killed. Charged in 2008 with attempted first-degree murder, he pleaded guilty to second-degree assault and received a 10-year prison term with all but three years of the sentence suspended.

Police also identified Donte Gee, 25, as the man fatally shot March 18 in the 3200 block of Belair Road near Clifton Park. Police said Gee was walking with two other men about 11:30 p.m. when one took out a handgun and shot him. Gee, a resident of the 3400 block of Teresa Court, was on probation stemming from a September 2009 guilty plea to drug charges.

Police had not arrested anyone in either case. Thirty-six people have been killed in Baltimore this year, compared with 49 at this time last year, a decline of about 27 percent.
