Police ID officers who killed man in Northwest Baltimore

Baltimore Sun

Police have identified the officers who exchanged gunfire with and killed a man Feb. 4 in Northwest Baltimore.

Detective Chris Funk, 28, a two-year veteran assigned to the Violent Crimes Impact Section, and his partner, Detective Matthew Ryckman, 23, fired shots at Dennis Gregory, 41, who police say opened fire on them as they did field interviews in the 3700 block of Oakmont Ave. in connection with a recent shooting, said Anthony Guglielmi, the department's chief spokesman.

Funk, a Marine who served in Iraq, was wounded but not seriously injured. Gregory, who has a long criminal record, was on probation at the time of the shooting.

An investigation into the shooting was continuing.
