Police identify man fatally stabbed in West Baltimore

A 31-year-old man was found fatally stabbed Thursday evening outside of a vehicle in West Baltimore, police said.

Police identified the victim as Kevin Davis of the 1000 block of Leadenhall St.

Officers responding to a report of a cutting at about 5:15 p.m. found him outside of a parked 1996 Ford Econoline van with its passenger side door open and blood inside.

An unidentified woman was holding a towel to his chest in an attempt to staunch the bleeding. Police said there were no witnesses and detectives knew of no motive.

Davis appeared to have a long criminal record, including assault and drug convictions and a first-degree murder charge from 2005 that was dropped by prosecutors. In that case, he was charged with fatally shooting a man who was seated in a car talking to a woman outside the vehicle.

He was charged last month in District Court with second-degree burglary and theft under $1,000.

The killing was the 12th of the year in Baltimore, down from 19 at the same point last year.
