A 47-year-old man was injured after getting into an altercation Wednesday night in Southeast Baltimore's Greektown community in an incident initially reported as a shooting, police said.
The victim was walking with a friend in an alley behind the 400 block of S. Lehigh St. at about 9:45 p.m. when two men approached and began to attack them, according to police. The suspects ran away and returned a few minutes later. Police said one of them pulled a handgun from his waistband and fired a shot.
Detective Nicole Monroe, a police spokeswoman, said the bullet missed the victim, but he suffered a cut to his head when he was struck with a stick during the fight. He was taken to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center for treatment.
Police initially reported that the victim had been shot and was in critical condition, but later reported that the man suffered only a superficial wound.
The attackers fled in a white vehicle, and police said charges were pending against a suspect. A motive was not provided.
