Emergency repairs to a 10-inch water main break along East Redwood Street on Wednesday afternoon will interrupt water service on several downtown streets, according to Baltimore's Department of Public Works.

DPW said shutdowns will occur on Charles Street on the west, Baltimore Street on the north, Light Street on the east and Lombard Street on the south. Water service is expected to be restored overnight, DPW officials said.

DPW Director Rudolph S. Chow said due to the break, water has entered lower levels of at least two buildings. Sump pumps have contained water, but flooding is possible without repairs, Chow said.
