The Baltimore City Fire Department said that in response to the second fire-related fatality in the city this year, Fire Chief Niles R. Ford and city fire fighters will canvass communities to stall smoke alarms on Saturday.
Fire officials said recently a man died in a fire at the 4100 block of Ethland Avenue. Officials said Saturday's neighborhood Smoke Alarm Sweep will begin at the home where the fire took place. Fire fighters will discuss fire safety and install smoke alarms with lithium tamper-resistant batteries.
In January, Nasir Smith of Baltimore died in a Jan. 13 house fire — just five days shy of his second birthday.
In 2014 seventeen individuals were lost in fires, down from 20 in 2013.
