Baltimore announces weekend street closures for MLK Day parade, crane removal, utility work

The Baltimore Department of Transportation on Wednesday announced a handful of city street closures this weekend for the 17th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Parade, a tower crane removal in Otterbein and utility work near Canton.

Clinton Street will be closed between Boston Street and Keith Avenue in the Canton Industrial Area from 6 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday for utility work, officials said.

The removal of a tower crane in Otterbein will necessitate the closing of Charles Street between Hugh and Lee streets from 5 a.m. Saturday until midnight Monday, they said.

The parade begins at noon Monday on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard at Eutaw Street, then marches south to Baltimore Street, where it turns west and disbands between the MLK and Poppleton Street.

The following streets will be closed for the parade, per the city transportation department:

•Franklin Street between Greene Street and Fremont Avenue from 7 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. (Access to westbound U.S. 40 will be maintained.)

•Eutaw Street between Dolphin Street and Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard from 9:30 a.m. until 3 p.m.

•Preston Street between Madison Avenue and Howard Street from 9:30 a.m. until 3 p.m.

•Madison Avenue between Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard and Dolphin Street from 9:30 a.m. until 3 p.m.

•Baltimore Street between Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard and Poppleton Street from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.

•Fremont Avenue between West Baltimore and West Fayette Streets from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.

•Southbound Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard between Eutaw and Lombard Streets from 11:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.

•The left lane of northbound Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard between Lombard and Eutaw Streets from 11:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.

•Pennsylvania Avenue between Preston Street and Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard from 11:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.

Parking will be restricted on Monday from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the following streets:

•Eutaw Street from Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard to Dolphin Street

•Madison Avenue from Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard to Preston Street
