Baltimore firefighters battled two fires in the Barclay neighborhood on Friday.
At 8:30 a.m., units responded to the corner of 25th Street and Greenmount Avenue, where they saw smoke coming out of the second and third floors of the three-story building, said Baltimore Fire Department spokesman Samuel Johnson.
When they got inside, firefighters found fire on both upper floors and had some challenge in extinguishing the blaze because the floors, walls and ceilings were all on fire, Johnson said. It took about 30 to 45 minutes to put out the fire.
The top two floors, which are apartments, were vacant at the time of the fire, but the ground floor store, Everest Greenish Grocery, was open.
The store suffered water, smoke and property damage, Johnson said.
No one was injured in the fire.
Estimated damage was $42,000, said fire officials. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
