Special Olympics run to close northbound bore of Fort McHenry Tunnel

One of the two bores carrying northbound Interstate 95 traffic through the Fort McHenry Tunnel in Baltimore will be closed for several hours on Sunday morning for Special Olympics Maryland's sixth annual 5-kilometer run and walk fundraiser.

More than 900 walkers and runners are expected to take part in the event in the right hand northbound tunnel bore, the proceeds of which support Special Olympics Maryland's work providing athletic training and events for children and adults in the state who have intellectual disabilities.

Registration for the event begins at 8 a.m., with a post-race celebration lasting until noon.

Throughout the event, all northbound I-95 traffic will be directed through the left hand northbound tunnel bore, according to the Maryland Transportation Authority.

The MdTA Police said the event is expected to have a minimal effect on traffic.
