Baltimore fire and police crews searched the harbor unsuccessfully at S. Broadway and Thames Street in Fells Point after receiving a 911 call for a person in the water Sunday morning, the Fire Department said.

Rescue units responded to the scene at 9:23 a.m. and searched the water there and at Bond Street with SONAR and a dive team from the Anne Arundel County Police Department for hours.

Divers turned up a large piece of debris but didn't find anyone in the harbor. The person who called 911 was eventually reached about an hour into the search, and the call was disregarded after noon as a "good intent" — albeit false — report, Baltimore Fire Chief Thomas Tosh said.
