Three Baltimore schools were closed Thursday due to a large water main break in Northwest Baltimore, city officials said.
The 36-inch main first reported Wednesday night gushed water in the 2700 block of Gwynns Falls Parkway near Gwynns Falls Elementary School, and water service was cut off to allow for repairs, a Department of Public Works spokesman Jeff Raymond said.
Baltimore City Public Schools said Gwynns Falls Elementary, ConneXions School for the Arts, and MATHS (Maryland Academy of Tech & Health Sciences) were closed Thursday as a result of the break.
The morning rush hour is expected to be slow in the area as crews work to repair the water main.
A city salt truck had responded Wednesday night to keep several streets from icing over as temperatures dipped below freezing.
