A power outage in Baltimore caused nine traffic lights downtown to go dark and affected 300 residents Tuesday afternoon, officials said.
The outage started at 3:29 p.m. and was caused by a non-BGE contractor damaging an underground power line at E. Baltimore Street and N. Central Avenue while digging Tuesday morning, BGE spokeswoman Rachael Lighty said.
The outage, which has since been resolved, lasted more than an hour and affected the following intersections:
• E. Pratt Street and S. Central Avenue
• E. Baltimore Street and Central Ave
• E. Baltimore Street and N. Broadway
• S. Broadway and E. Lombard Street
• E. Baltimore and S. Caroline streets
• E. Lombard and S Caroline streets
• Orleans and Gay streets
• Fayette Street and Central Avenue
• Fayette and Caroline streets
Separately, a one-car crash on the northbound Jones-Falls Expressway brought traffic to a standstill Tuesday afternoon. Officers had all but one lane closed while they awaited a tow truck near the N. Charles Street intersection at about 4:15 p.m., police said.
No one was injured in the crash, police said.
