18-year-old Hampden man charged in Pigtown murder

Baltimore police charge an 18-year-old Hampden man in a fatal shooting in Pigtown.

Baltimore police are crediting tips from the community in aiding the arrest of an 18-year-old in a Pigtown killing earlier this month.

Wayne Smith, 18, of the 1400 block of Union Avenue in Hampden is charged with first-degree murder in the Oct. 12 fatal shooting of 28-year-old Avery Kelly of the 1700 block of Darley Avenue.

Police said the shooting occurred in the 1100 block of Cleveland Street, around 8 p.m.

Smith did not have an attorney listed in online court records.

Police said tips from the community helped detectives make the arrest.
