A 26-year-old man was fatally shot outside Hollins Market on Friday just as children from a nearby elementary school were being let out.
Just before 2:30 p.m., a police officer on patrol was flagged down by a resident and directed to the 1100 block of Hollins St., where the officer found Tyrone Mcnair, of South Arlington Street, Baltimore police spokesman Det. Jeremy Silbert said. The man was shot at least once and transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police initially believed the victim was a juvenile but a relative and acquaintance confirmed that he was an adult. Witnesses said the shooting may have grown out of a dispute at South Arlington Avenue and Hollins Street, Silbert said. Police were working on a suspect description Friday afternoon. Homicide detectives also plan to check area surveillance cameras.
Several police officers were stationed outside James McHenry Elementary School about a half block away on South Schroeder Street as investigators responded to the shooting.
