71-year-old woman sexually assaulted in her Arlington home Saturday

A 71-year-old woman was sexually assaulted during a break-in early Saturday morning in the Arlington neighborhood of Northwest Baltimore, police said.

At around 2:30 a.m., a man dressed in black and wearing a black ski mask entered the victim's home in the 5300 block of Beaufort Ave., police spokesman Detective Donny Moses said Monday. The intruder stole money, jewelry, and other items from the woman at knifepoint before sexually assaulting her, Moses said.

The suspect then stole the victim's car, only to crash it into several parked cars shortly thereafter, Moses said. A witness went to the man's aid, but the man fled on foot before police arrived.

Officers found blood at the scene of the accident, Moses said, suggesting that the man had been injured in the crash.

Moses said that the perpetrator was around six feet tall and had a slender build.

The incident happened less than one mile from a similar crime that occurred at the beginning of May. In the 4500 block of Garden Drive, Mary Helen Dickson-Hines, 90, was assaulted in her home midday on May 4. She died Wednesday from injuries sustained during the attack.

Anyone with information about either crime is asked to call Metro Crime Stoppers at 1-866-7LOCKUP.
