Broken sewer line repaired after leaking 84,000 gallons of sewage into Baltimore's harbor

A broken sewer line was repaired Thursday after it spewed 84,000 gallons of sewage into the Baltimore Harbor in the past week, the Department of Public Works said.

The leak happened in the 1500 block of North Chapel St., the Broadway East neighborhood of East Baltimore. The sewage never surfaced on the street.

On Aug. 18, crews discovered the leak and it was repaired Thursday morning.

Officials also reminded residents to avoid contact with the city's polluted waterways.
