46,000 gallons leak from sewer line into Gwynns Falls, storm drains

City officials unclogged a sewer line Monday that had caused 46,000 gallons of sewage to leak into the Gwynns Falls and storm drains.

The overflow was first reported about 10 p.m. Sunday night in the area of the 200 block of North Hilton Street, officials said. The blocked sewer line was caused by a combination of grease, rags, sand, gravel, rocks, trash and roots.

Officials reminded residents not to wash fats, oil and grease down the drain, as well as rags, paper towels, and wipes.

Baltimore City health department and the Maryland Department of the Environment have been notified, and said signs have been posted in the area.
