Homicide detectives were called to the scene of an East Baltimore shooting late Saturday, in which police said a man was shot in the head.
The shooting around 11 p.m. capped off a day in which the city saw several incidents of gun violence. A man was shot to death just block from Pimlico racetrack in the hours before the Preakness stakes, and three other men were victims of nonfatal shootings.
Police have not identified the victims in any of the incidents, and released few details about the latest shooting, which took place in the 900 Block of N. Caroline St. But authorities said two men shot in the leg in separate incidents Saturday afternoon were expected to survive.
The first of those shootings was reported at 4:08 p.m., when officers out of the Northern police district responded to the intersection of East 35th Street and Old York Road in Waverly where they found a man with a gunshot wound to his leg. He was taken to a hospital and listed in stable condition.
At 5:28 p.m., Central district officers responded to the 200 block of West Monument Street in Mount Vernon, where they found another man wounded from a gunshot wound to his leg. He was taken to a hospital, and a preliminary investigation revealed that robbery may have been the motive in the shooting, police said.
The shooters in both cases have not been found, and police said detectives are asking anyone with information to contact them by calling investigators directly at their police district or 911.
Late Saturday, police reported another shooting but most details were not available. At 10:13 p.m., a man walked into an area hospital with a gunshot wound to his foot, police said. Detectives are investigating and do not know where the crime occurred.
