Power outage affects hundreds around Mid-Town Belvedere on sweltering afternoon

Baltimore Gas and Electric Co. said 214 customers lost power around the city's Mid-Town Belvedere neighborhood Friday, as temperatures rose above 95 degrees.

BGE Spokesman Justin Mulcahy blamed a damaged electrical cable for the outage, which knocked out refrigerators and air conditioners on a sweltering afternoon.

The power failure was first reported around 12:40 p.m., according to BGE's online outage map, which located this one near the intersection of Charles and Chase streets.

Mulcahy said around 3:30 p.m. that a crew was working to repair the cable.

"The majority of folks should be back up in an hour," he said.

But it could take several hours, he said, before power is restored for everyone.
